Hybrid clouds on the rise
Industry leaders expect most of in-house private clouds to be abandoned in favor of more strategic hybrid mixes of public cloud services and more commercially packaged private clouds services. Tracy Corbo, research analyst at Enterprise Management Associates, declared she’s convinced that 2013 is going to be the year of the hybrid cloud infrastructure.
In 2013, there will be a movement to private clouds managed by someone else, off-premise, due to their cost-effectiveness, according to IDC. “For critical high compliance regulated applications, only a secure, non-shared private cloud will pass all requirements.”
Cloud and mobile mixing
According to Forrester Research, mobile devices and applications will continue to rely on the cloud computing cost-efficient and available processing power. “More often than not, we are finding mobile applications connected to cloud-based back-end services that can elastically respond to mobile client engagements and shield your data center from this traffic. Nearly every software-as-a-service (SaaS) application has a mobile client now, which is proof of the model as well.”
At a recent event hosted by Gartner in late October, they released their prediction on the top 10 strategic technology trends for 2013. The analyst firm predicts that the Personal Cloud will gradually replace the PC as the location where individuals keep their personal content and access their services. According to Gartner, “no one platform, form factor, technology or vendor will dominate. The personal cloud shifts the focus from the client device to cloud-based services delivered across devices.”
Industry-specific and community clouds
Some experts are expecting to see industry-specific cloud-based solutions that may include dedicated services or ecosystems.
The cloud computing technologies have been utilized and trusted for many years. In 2013 Enterprises will adopt cloud practices more broadly. The power and flexibility of cloud solutions will continue to increase.
